OptiBond XTR – dental adhesive system

OptiBond XTR
OptiBond XTR is a two-component self-etch universal adhesive system including a self-etch PRIMER and a universal ADHESIVE.

The OptiBond XTR PRIMER provides effective etching to enamel and dentin without the need for a separate phosphoric acid etch, thus simplifying the bonding procedure.

The OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE is 15% filled with 0.4 micron barium glass (also found in the Kerr Premise and Herculite XRV Ultra composites) to help reinforce bond strength. The material’s chemistry allows for compatibility with all self-cure or dual-cure resin cements and core build-up materials. Dentists can therefore utilize OptiBond XTR for their direct and indirect procedures without the need for a secondary bonding system.

Refrigerate upon receipt, between 2° – 8°C (36° – 46°F)

Indications for use

Direct Bonding Applications

  • Light-cured composite and compomer restorations.
  • Composite/ceramic/metal repairs.
  • Cavity sealing for amalgam restorations.
  • Sealing of hypersensitive and/or exposed root surfaces Core build-ups (self-cured, light-cured, or dual-cured).

Indirect Bonding Applications

  • Veneers.
  • Porcelain, composite, and metal-based (including zirconia-based and alumina-based) inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges.
  • Endodontic posts.
  • Cavity sealing as a pretreatment for indirect restorations.

Note: Is compatible with all composite, self-cure and dual-cure resin cements and core buildup materials.

OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE can be used to prime metal, ceramic, and composite substrates/restorations.

Contraindications

  1. Patients who have a history of severe allergic reaction to methacrylate resins.
  2. Direct pulp capping.

Delivery Options
Is available in both bottle and Unidose delivery systems:
Bottle Delivery: Shake OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE bottle briefly prior to dispensing. Dispense 1-2 drops of OptiBond XTR PRIMER and OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE into two separate clean wells. Replace cap immediately after dispensing. Wet applicator tip completely.
Unidose Delivery – for single patient use only, to prevent cross contamination between patients: Open the unidose device and insert the applicator brush into the container to saturate the tip.
Discard unidose device after use.

Instructions for Use – OptiBond XTR

DIRECT RESTORATIONS

Bonding Composites/Compomers to Dentin/ Enamel

  1. Prepare cavity. Pumice clean unprepared tooth structure with a fluoride-free cleaning paste; rinse thoroughly with water spray and air dry.
  2. Apply OptiBond XTR PRIMER to the enamel/dentin surface using the disposable applicator brush. Scrub the surface with a brushing motion for 20 seconds.
  3. Air thin for 5 seconds with medium air pressure.
  4. Shake OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE bottle briefly. Apply OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE to the enamel/dentin surface with light brushing motion for 15 seconds.
  5. Air thin for 5 seconds.
  6. Light cure for 10 seconds*.
  7. Apply composite according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.

INDIRECT RESTORATIONS

I. Restoration Surface Preparation
Prepare the internal surface of the restoration according to manufacturer’s instructions. Here are some general
recommendations:

Ceramic/Porcelain Restorations: Sandblast the surface with 50μ alumina with a pressure of about 30
psi (0.2 MPa) and etch the restoration with hydrofluoric acid for 1 minute. Apply a coat of OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE† on the internal surface of the restoration, air thin with gentle air first and then strong air to avoid pooling of OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE, and light-cure for 10 seconds.

†Alternatively, apply a coat of Kerr silane on the internal surface of the restoration, and lightly air thin. Protect the restorations from light as Kerr silane contains resin and is light-sensitive.

Metal-based, Zirconia-based, Alumina-based, and Composite Restorations: Sandblast the internal surface with 50μ alumina with a pressure of about 60 psi (0.4 MPa) for metal-based, zirconia-based and alumina-based restorations, or a pressure of about 15 psi (0.1 MPa) for composite restorations. Apply a coat of OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE on the internal surface of the restoration, air thin with gentle air first and then strong air to avoid pooling of OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE, and light-cure for 10 seconds.

II. Tooth Surface Preparation

  1. Clean the preparation. Wash thoroughly with water spray and air dry.
  2. Apply OptiBond XTR PRIMER to the enamel/dentin surface using the disposable applicator brush. Scrub
    the surface with a brushing motion for 20 seconds.
  3. Air thin for 5 seconds with medium air pressure.
  4. Shake OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE bottle briefly. Apply OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE to the enamel/dentin surface with light brushing motion for 15 seconds.
  5. Air thin with gentle air first and then strong air for at least 5 seconds to avoid pooling of adhesive before light curing. For post cementation, excess OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE can be removed with a dry applicator
    brush or absorbent paper point.
  6. Light cure for 10 seconds.

III. Cement Application and Seating of Restoration
See indication-specific information in sections A-C below. Veneers, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and metal-based
restorations (used in conjunction with a luting cement)

Note: OptiBond XTR is compatible with all composite, self-cure and dual-cure resin cement and core buildup material.

A. Veneers – Apply NX3 (or a resin cement of your choice) to veneer, seat the veneer, and cure the cement according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.

B. Crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays and metal-based restorations –Apply NX3 resin cement (or a resin cement of your choice) to the restoration or prep, seat the restoration, and cure the cement according to manufacturer’s instructions for use.

C. Post Bonding and Core Buildup– Prepare the surface of the post according to manufacturer’s instructions, e.g. mechanical roughening or sandblasting. Apply a coat of OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE on post, air thin to avoid pooling of OptiBond XTR ADHESIVE, and light-cure for 10 seconds. Apply NX3 resin cement (or a resin cement of your choice)onto the post, seat the post, vibrate the post slightly avoiding the possibility of trapped air, and then cure NX3 according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Proceed with core buildup with NX3 as core material (or a core material of your choice). All self-cure and dual-cure core material can be built in bulk as light-cured is compatible with all self-cure and dualcure
core buildup material.

CAUTION:

  • Uncured methacrylate resin may cause contact dermatitis and damage to the pulp.
  • Corrosive Liquid: Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and soft tissue. In case of contact with skin or eyes, flush
    immediately with water. Get medical attention for eyes. Do not take internally.
  • Contains acetone and ethanol and is flammable. Keep away from sources of ignition.
